Malditas represent! Philippine national women’s football team rules LA tournament

The Philippine national women’s football team escaped United States club California Cosmos with a 4-3 triumph on penalties to bag the inaugural 2013 LA Viking Cup at the Santa Ana Stadium in California.

After ending regulation tied with a 1-1 score, the Malditas and the Cosmos failed to break the knot in extra time, which forced the match into a penalty shootout.

The Malditas scored two victories and a draw in the preliminary round to top the group and earn the right to play in the title match.

Aside from the Malditas and the Cosmos, the four-team tournament also featured American teams Metro Stars and Leon.

The Viking Cup is part of the Malditas’ training camp in the United States, where they are looking to recruit players with Filipino lineage who could possibly play for the national team.
